I used to have the older version of Garage Band and it was WAY much better. Trying to record with this new version has been an overly frustrating experience. Thanks Apple for wasting my time. This is in no way an upgrade to the older version.

I like this App!!!
It’s supposed to be easier to play on garage band than in real life, correct? Well I know how to play guitar and piano in real life, however cannot seem to figure out how to play on here. I think in the next update it should be a tad simpler.
Generally a good experience, but there is a small but irritating latency in the guitar monitor sound (same problem on iOS). Using an Apogee JAM to connect my guitar.
The new update to garageband is much harder to use; adding effects to a song etc. Also there aren’t as many effects to add to your voice. The new controls/ beatbox machine on the bottom of the page makes everything seem much more complicated and in general i find that the new update has just made the app much harder to use.
Initially, I wasn’t too thrilled with Garageband because of the changes made from previous versions but after spending some time to learn the features of this program, I can say that Garageband is incredible! As a songwriter, this software gives you all the tools you need and more. Great job!
Have a hard time deciding which I like better Logic Pro or Garage band, both are fully functional and worth while having on your system.
It kept wanting me to update this suppid app. I have no interest in it and I kept getting all theses suppid reminders on my screen. I cannot get rid of the reminders. i am sure i have to uninstall this stupid app to get rid of the stuppid reminders.
Apple has long ago stopped caring about customers who actually want to accomplish something with their hardware and software, as they focus on those consumers who simply like shiny things that make funny sounds. I should have read all of the reviews - there is a major issue with the 5G download of content. Once completing this download (which I have done twice, which will likely result in an email from my Internet provider), many of the loops indicate that the synth generating the sounds can not be located. Very frustrating, since the thumbnails work fine, but once dragged into the project, the warning dialog box comes up. I don’t understand Apple anymore. As they dumb down all of their once-great software, you lose more than you gain. This is true in GarageBand, and even more true in Final Cut Pro. Its like Homer Simpson is running their software division; “d’oh! Make it dumber - oh look, a dooooh-nut…"
I use Garage Band from many years, at least 10 years. I bought it in i Life and I bought the Jam Packs Symphonic, voices, etc. We had a lot of instruments, a lot of filters and a lot of parameters to play with. It was the old good time. I’m using it now and it’s frustrating, the presentation is not as user friendly as it was before, it doesn’t work well. Im also trying El Captain Beta 4 version and trying to create a piece of music is a very very frustrating and risky experience. Apple lost a magic gem and offered us a piece of nightmare. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY APPLE DECIDED TO CHANGE A WINNING PRODUCT AND OFFER SUCH A PIECE OF UNARTICULATED PROGRAM that bugs, stop recording, lose the peripherical.
I love garageband’s new drummer, and I love the idea of it, but I would like to see some more variety to the rock style drummer. Even adding a metal drummer would be great. Some people (such as me) might like something a little heavier, and having a “Heavy” Drum kit may have the sound, but the drumming alone is another thing. There is a “Heavy Metal Guitar” but no Drummer to go along with that. I would like to see a metal drummer in an update. Thanks

Like Lou Pinot, I have been using GB for a very long time, and once I set up Jam packs, I had much more flexibility for loops and tones than now. I still can’t find Swedish fiddle loops. The basic track interface is more clunky and far less intuitive. GB puts all your songs in iTunes —THAT is very frustrating. About the only improvement is the score program, hence two stars instead of one. Nobody has written a “Garageband: The Missing Manual” and one is very much needed. Please bring back some former programmers.
I am extremely disappointed in Garage Band’s update. I should not have to spend 30 minutes RE-LEARNING how to enable multiple track recordings and then through multiple trial and error have to figure out how both signals will be picked up when trying to record both instruments. Also, once the multi track recording is played back and seems like both recorded well. Why oh why when saved and then reopened, is ONE OF THE TRACKS MISSING? The new update is not progressive - everything about it is regressive - it’s ease of use, the effects, the sounds etc. This must have been a method to make more money - frustrate your customers, disappoint them with what software sounds are available so that they will purchase logic etc. or dish out more money from all the sampled sounds one has to purchase now. To further add on to this sinking ship, since the last upgrade - none of the legacy sounds they make available are operable as they once were. Forced to deal with sub-standard options of their “new” sounds, what was once an inspiration of mine to record with this software has become a complete disappointing, waste of time. Would never purchase “more sounds” if the compression and effects cababilities are as doomed as they are in the basic sounds they provide. A total disaster.
I love how Apple is the richest company in the world, pretty much ever, and they’re still going for cash grabs. This thing they call Logic Pro now is what GarageBand used to be. Still selling a 16GB iPhone. It’s 2015! /rant 1) Crashes every time I switch audio output settings. 2) Recording my piano is way more roundabout than it should be. 3) Seriously, why are there only input options for Voice and Guitars?
i have had 2011 macbook pro, had really good garageband version. now i actually paid for something which doesnt worth even a penny. do not waste you money.
Hei, this release of Garage Band is simply an insult to Mac users. Why do they call it Garde Bang if I have to learn it allover again. very littel similiarity to the previouas version. Any softwer designer will conduct graceful upgrade, where the same users can still use the app with minimum learning curve. WHat was wrong with the lest version of GB that they had to push it beyond normalities? I am not inspired to use it as it takes more time to figure out things then continue wiht my recorings as I did for years.
Just downloaded the new Garage Band. Wasted the whole afternoon into the evening trying to rediscover the new design and get things back to normal after things went sideways. Now I’m writing a review. 1. I looked jup a new feature in help. All Spotlight results were in Portugese. The “All Help” topics in the bottom half of the window were still in English. Worse yet, the system Help was the same. I rebooted my iMac. All Help results generated by Spotlight were now in something Slovic. Had a very long call with a very nice person at Apple. We rebooted into Safe Boot. The language was then in something like Norwegian or Finnish. She did some searching while waiting for El Cap to reload, and said she found some mention of Swedish language issues with El Cap. Hes best advice was to do an OS reinstall. I was about to migrate back to Yosemite - El Cap has been a disappointment. I’ve had USB connectivity issues with audio devices, my Time Machine drive has been disconnected and corrupted multiple times, and its super slow. Fortunately, I paused and decided to reset my NVRAM before wasting even more time on the reinstall. That fixed the system Help. Garage Band Spotlight Help is still in some Nordic language, but all the results in the old version of Gargage Band (and even the App Store for good measure), are now back in English. 2. Tried to select all automation control points on a track by selecting the header as in the former version. It can’t be done - unless there it’s been redesigned and theres something about that in Help. All I know is that it can’t be done in the former and familiar way. Thankfully, the installer saved version Garage Band 6.0.5 in a folder. Im forced to go back to 6.0.5 to get my project done. I recommend that you wait to buy updates that come out after 10.1.1. Bottom Line: The redesign and new features look promising. However, El Cap, Garage Band - I’ve been wasting a lot of time on technical issues since December. Safe Boot and Disk Utility have gotten me through. As a long-time user, Apple used to be, and portrays itself as being, better than these releases.

アプリ自体はとても使いやすく作曲にはとても便利ですが、Mainstage 3でおとしたAlchemyの音源が使えないのはとても不便だと思います。 具体的に言うと「The preset you are attempting to load was created with a newer version of Alchemy than you have installed, so it cannot be loaded.」というエラーメッセージが表示され音が反映しません。 もっと作曲の幅を広げたいのでアップデートを希望します。
