GarageBand App Reviews

GB freezes everytime we open it!

We just bought a brand new late 2015 iMac 27 inch 5k retina display. Its very fustrating that this is happening when it shouldn’t. I’ve gone through other reviews of this app and am very disapointed. We can’t have it running longer than few seconds before it freezes the whole computer.

Very Simple and now more powerful.

Great for a small home studio and a good segway to Logic Pro X.

please understand this isn’t a proffesional daw like pro tools or ableton or logic

I can’t believe people are so upset about a free or $5 app…I mean that’s basically all that it is its just an app not a proffesional daw, its just basically for messing around and having fun, if you are expecting a complete daw with all the bells and whistles by a “real” program not this app. I mean this app is fine for what it is its like a lite lite lite lite daw, People are so upset about what it can’t do, for how cheap it is or free it does a lot, and considering it shares its sounds and loops with logic thats not that bad, I mean logic is really meant more for music production that actually audio recording and editing anyway and thats kind of like garage band of course you can record audio but its just not as flexible as pro tools or anything like that…I think you will find that if you lower your expectaions and actually understand that the grammy award isn’t coming from garage band you will be so much happier knowing that the limitation are normal for what you are paying or getting for free, I have only used garage band like 4 or 5 years ago and again now with this one and I’m happy for what it is, I mean if i’m bored and just want to check out something realy quick and mess around or have my 14 year old daughter have some fun because at this point pro tools is slightly out of her league so she understand garage band, and why not its easy it has a couple of cool things, but don’t expect magic out of it, I mean if you really know what you are doing and have the time to sit there and really manipulate the sounds and grooves, you can make something cool but you would have to work 3 times as hard than if you had pro tools or reason or ableton, and I guess logic which I’m not a huge fan of but just my opinion thats all But I do understand the people that rate it crappy because it is either freezing or crashing and they can’t even get a chance to use it than they have a legitamate gripe but other than that you can really enjoy it as long as you maintain your expectations ok thanks

Editting question

So I have no immediate issues with the app, not saying that there aren’t any, just none that really erks me, but.. I do ask; Is there a function for moving Tracks with their respective automations? As in, when editting the reverb, volume, ambience, the lows and highs or whatever else one may need to edit. If not, can it be added? So when moving a track further on the timeline, its f/x and other changes will move along with it, reducing the pains on moving tracks and other pieces to better suit your composition? Other than that, I have no real problems, I give a solid four out of five stars.

Older versions far superior in every way

HORRIBLE compared to older versions. I continue to use the 2009 version on my older iMac because this version is completely unusable. Not user friendly at all. Please bring back the right side bar effects pane…the visual knobs are absolutely a pain and it is terrible trying to pick through different reverb or chorus effects which used to be super easy. Probably the worst Mac application I’ve ever used.

ok

I think that GarageBand is a pretty decent software overall not to mention probably one of the only really good ones for a mac user but my biggest gripe is that their soundfont support is trash. sound fonts are suppost to contain several sometimes hundreds of instruments but Garageband is so bad at handling soundfonts it can only play one of the instruments which is absolute garbage. and the one way they couldve fixed this is to let you create instruments but!! THEY!!! DONT!! HAVE!!! THAT!! OPTION!!! at least as far as i’ve seen there is no option. i’ve looked high and low to see if that’s possible and have found zero results, ive been though garageband support and ive gone through forum after forum how to after how to aND HAVE FOUND NOTHING. APPLE IF ANY OF YOU GUYS ARE READING THIS PLEASE FIX THIS OK? It’s such a simple thing but i’ve spent several hours tearing my hair out trying to find a way to do something about this but have found nothing and honestly you need to fix this please.

Help Menu Problems

Not an easy software to figure out, but come on please fix the glinch with the help menus. More than half the time it switches to Spanish. Sometimes on one screen it’s English headers and Spanish text. Or Quick Help will be in English and the rest will be in Spanish. Seriously, no excuse for this shoddiness. Haven’t even gotten to the problems with the software yet.

Won’t record without freezing

everything works fine.EXCEPT that while you attempt to RECORD your track after a few bars the application FREEZES. I have 24G RAM and a late 2015 iMac. I have a theory that apple allows these glitches to occur in an attempt to get users to look at more expensive applications like Logic or Pro Tools

Freakin’ Revolutionary

I Haz No Words. This is amazing. No. Flaws. period. Thank you everybody at apple for making this possible. ;) Keep It Up.

Plugins don’t work!

Ugh. Just got all my plugins working again, and now they aren’t recognized. Not even Podfarm!

Violins

Please add single Violins,Violas,and Cellos

Complete change from 6.0.5

I haven’t had too much time to use this updated version yet, so I may change my sentiments later. But at the moment, I simply don’t have time to learn what appears to be a completely different application! I use GarageBand for podcasting, and upon opening this new version come to discover that podcasting features are no longer available. Good thing I held on to 6.0.5, because this updated version is going to take some time to get to know...

new loops? where are they????

where are the new loops? I updated and i only see a new synth pad and a few more instruments but no new 2000+ or so loops mentioned. Are the new loops only compatible with certain Apple products like laptops vs Desktops or iPads and IPhones?

Garageband V10.1.1

I do not believe you can import iTunes into Garageband (*visa versa yes ) + Soundclound from Garageband (Ringtones ?) ++ ? Open up Garageband V10.1.1 and check for updates ( Prior when G-Band V10 was free and add ons were $4.99 , Had to download + download again in Garageband (Check for updates or what the option is , My Jampacks (dc’d along time ago pull up under Legacy AU ) check www for buletsand bones or hang time (all one word on Users forums Very smart guy Hang in there , best bang for $4.99 out there !!! p.s I am running OSX 10.9.5 on a mid 2010 iMac 3.06 gHZ with 12GB of Ram ( came with 2X 2GB + I added 2 x4 GB ) before updating from Snow Leopard 10.6.x (I really liked Snow Leopard but Apps required higher Versions of OSX , I still have Garageband V6 that came with install disks

Just what I needed

Garage Band allowed me to hook up more than one USB mic at a time.

No podcasting features and no warning

I haven’t even used this version yet, and i’m already diappointed. I make sermon podcasts with GarageBand - or at least i used to - but those features aren’t supported in this new version. Nowhere on the AppStore description does it warn about this change, or i wouldn’t have updated. I only found out when i tried to open the template i use, which i created in GarageBand. Boo!

Beautiful and Growing

a few months ago i upgraded garageband when i wanted to get more into music production, which is clearly what this new version is gearded toward. I love the constant updates to loops and can’t wait to see what else apple has in store Also i give 5 stars because for under $5 this is the absolute best introductory DAW there is on the market.

Great!

This is a fun and great app.

How do I export songe from Garageband to Soundcloud/Itunes!?

The app itself is great, no complaints there. However, every single time I try to upload a song to itunes or soundcloud, it ends up distorted and has overal bad quality. How do I upload a song to soundcloud or itunes and get good quality? Please help!
