Don’t Buy 10.1.1 - Wait for Updates
Just downloaded the new Garage Band. Wasted the whole afternoon into the evening trying to rediscover the new design and get things back to normal after things went sideways. Now I’m writing a review.
1. I looked jup a new feature in help. All Spotlight results were in Portugese. The “All Help” topics in the bottom half of the window were still in English. Worse yet, the system Help was the same. I rebooted my iMac. All Help results generated by Spotlight were now in something Slovic. Had a very long call with a very nice person at Apple. We rebooted into Safe Boot. The language was then in something like Norwegian or Finnish. She did some searching while waiting for El Cap to reload, and said she found some mention of Swedish language issues with El Cap. Hes best advice was to do an OS reinstall.
I was about to migrate back to Yosemite - El Cap has been a disappointment. I’ve had USB connectivity issues with audio devices, my Time Machine drive has been disconnected and corrupted multiple times, and its super slow. Fortunately, I paused and decided to reset my NVRAM before wasting even more time on the reinstall. That fixed the system Help. Garage Band Spotlight Help is still in some Nordic language, but all the results in the old version of Gargage Band (and even the App Store for good measure), are now back in English.
2. Tried to select all automation control points on a track by selecting the header as in the former version. It can’t be done - unless there it’s been redesigned and theres something about that in Help. All I know is that it can’t be done in the former and familiar way.
Thankfully, the installer saved version Garage Band 6.0.5 in a folder. Im forced to go back to 6.0.5 to get my project done. I recommend that you wait to buy updates that come out after 10.1.1.
Bottom Line: The redesign and new features look promising. However, El Cap, Garage Band - I’ve been wasting a lot of time on technical issues since December. Safe Boot and Disk Utility have gotten me through. As a long-time user, Apple used to be, and portrays itself as being, better than these releases.
